Does Full and Slim really work like a gastric band?
The latest news to hit the dieting world is the revelation that popular High Street brand, Boots, will be stocking a brand new diet drink that is said to help consumers lose weight by mimicking the effects of a gastric band.
Full & Slim’s new fruit flavoured drinks will be on the shelves in the new year and its manufacturers are making some pretty bold claims concerning its potential results.
Full & Slim is quite simply, an appetite suppressant. It uses the amino acid, L-Carnitine, along with natural ‘super-fibre’, Glucomannan, to make the user feel full and therefore reduce their calorific intake.
Full & Slim’s own research suggests that in a trial of 500 women, as many as 70% lost more than a stone in weight over the course of six weeks; that’s pretty impressive by anyone’s standards.

Is Full and Slim really the dieters dream it claims to be?
The key ingredient; Glucomannan is in no way new or revolutionary. It has been around for a long time in the supplement world and already has quite a solid reputation.
Derived from the roots of the Konjac plant and is a water soluble dietary fibre that has been shown to help reduce weight, lower cholesterol and improve or prevent Type 2 Diabetes.
The premise is simple; when taken as a drink, Glucomannan swells in the stomach into an almost gel-like substance that literary fills the stomach.
A full stomach equals less hunger, which equals less calorific intake and, in turn, reduced weight. There is no scientific revelation here, no magic, fat fighting ingredient that we can all marvel at. It is, however, completely natural and safe to consume.
Are there better Glucomannan supplements already available?
Full & Slim have in no way cornered the market on this particular blend of appetite suppressant; not with the inclusion of Glucomannan, or the concept of taking it as a drink (although you can buy diet pills that contain Glucomannan). There is already an arms-length list of brands on the market that sell similar products that are just as, if not more, effective.
Most notably, one of Full & Slim’s leading competitors is the already popular, Nuratrim. While Nuratrim doesn’t have the kudos of being stocked on the High Street (yet), it has already gained a very good reputation and has some very positive feedback since its release 2 years ago.
The key benefit that Nuratrim has over Full & Slim’s formula is the inclusion of other natural fat fighters that enhance its weight-loss potential and give it that extra ‘kick’ that Full & Slim doesn’t have.
Namely, in addition to Glucomannan, Nuratrim contains some well-known thermogenic boosters that speed up the metabolism such as Green Tea, Liquorice Extract and Capsicum. All of which have been proven to work in clinical studies.
The proof will, of course, be in the pudding, or the salad, or whatever analogy you chose to use, as to whether Full & Slim can rival its many competitors already out there.
Obviously it has a marketing advantage now that it is readily available in the shops, but don’t be lulled into a false sense of security over this one, do your research first, there are plenty of worthy alternatives already on the market that don’t cost a whopping £100 a month!
